The Brooks Lytle Christian Jazz Ensemble is made up of the husband and wife team, Aisha and Carl Brooks-Lytle. Aisha is the vocalist and Carl is the guitarist of this unique Christian Jazz team. They have just finished their first project together entitled His Ways. The CD was completed with the help of Micah Jones on upright bass and Tony Deangelis on drums. When people hear the term “Christian Jazz”, they either think of smooth gospel music or classic Jazz tunes based on hymns. Aisha and Carl are doing everything they can to dispel that myth!
The Brooks Lytle sound is founded in the Jazz tradition although you can hear the influences of gospel and folk. Their music is a combination of original songs and arrangements of Jazz standards, praise and worship songs, and pop tunes. Brooks Lytle is dedicated to making music that is meaningful, thought provoking, and stimulating for the soul. Aisha and Carl believe in the ministry of music and the power it has to change lives.
Aisha and Carl are both natives of Philadelphia and are products of the Philadelphia public school system. As Aisha was headed off to college to become a teacher and as Carl was headed off to college as a science major, God turned their hearts toward majoring in music at Temple University. They met as Jazz performance majors and became friends, a couple, a musical team, and are now a husband and wife ministry duo. They are thankful for all the musicians and people who shaped them as artists and individuals.
